I Am Your SM and I Own You.

Allow me to introduce myself. You may think you know me, but I guarantee you, you don’t. I am your subconscious mind and I own you.

That’s right; you can talk about free will, free choice, master of your destiny, whatever cliche you want to use, but the fact is, if I’m not cool with whatever it is you want to do, it’s not going to happen.

Why? Because I am of more than 75% of what you consider “your mind”. Your logic, your decision making process, your thoughts, what you “think” you want, that’s less than 20% percent of your mind. So guess who has the upper hand?

Remember that time you tried to quit smoking? It didn’t last very long, did it? That’s because I like when you smoke. You’ve been smoking since you were 15, you feel good when you smoke, keeps you thin, calms you down, why on earth do you think I would want to change that? Read more

Responding Courageously

Today’s post is by guest author Jerry Brandt. Jerry is a good friend as well as a psychotherapist and hypnotherapist practicing in South Pasadena.

Courage comes from knowing the necessity of responding to a thing.  Courage comes from facing reality.  Courage comes from responding to what is.

Fear is a fantasy.  Face fear and the fear dissipates.  Anxiety’s purpose is for preparation, not paralysis.  Anxiety is doing a mind job on yourself.  Anxiety is over analysis to the point of paralysis.  Psychological reactivity is overdoing a perception to the point of analysis.

Fear and anxiety are different.  Fear is an instinctual response.  Fear is natural and appropriate to the situation.  For example, if one sees what one takes to be a snake they may jump.  In this action there was no thought involved only an automatic response to a perceived danger.  However, if one later recognizes the snake was only a rope the fear leaves  and the next time when it will also be seen as a rope and there will be no fearful response.

This turns out to be an appropriate way to work with anxiety and neurotic fear.  When situations are seen to be the harmless reality that they truly are the fear will drop itself.  If the awareness is deep enough there will be such clarity that the fear will not return.

Courage is an appropriate response to present reality.  In truth, any perceived threat that has not yet hurt you is not a threat.  It is a situation.  Respond to the situation with courage and appropriateness and the fear will leave.  You will have performed a courageous act.  Be a little braver.  Come closer to the truth.

According to Jerry: “Jerry is a funny but deeply spiritual being from another dimension. His favorite activity is telling jokes. Jerry Brandt is the creator of Spiritual Psychology and Soul Psychotherapy. You can find out more about Jerry and read more of his thoughts at www.spandsp.com.

Hypnosis and the Olympics

How can you not be inspired by watching the Olympics? These athletes make it look easy, but what we don’t see is the countless hours of physical conditioning that goes into becoming an Olympian.

However, the physical conditioning is only part of what it takes to be a world class athlete. An Olympic contender must believe!

They must believe the all the sweat, toil and time will pay off in gold, silver or bronze. They must believe that they have what it takes, even when they don’t want to get up at 5 am and jump into a swimming pool. They must believe that they have something special that will carry them the distance. They must believe that they can compete with the best in the world. Truly, it is the mental conditioning of an Olympian that makes the difference.

Here are some articles about the use of hypnosis with Olympic athletes:

20 Ways to Free Your Mind

CRI_203940

On Independence Day we celebrated our country’s freedom from the rule of the British empire. However, there are many other ways that our freedom can be curtailed besides being locked in a cell or ruled by a king.

True freedom is the ability to make a conscious choice. Freedom to think, to choose and to create your life in accordance with your most important values. True freedom is freedom of the mind, which no prison bars or national boundary can contain.

Free your mind from:

  1. the negative conditioning of the past.
  2. judgments you made about yourself which are no longer true or valid.
  3. judgments about others that are no longer true or valid.
  4. ancient resentments that poison your soul and erode your happiness.
  5. old beliefs that no longer work for you about work, such as that it should be painful or drudgery
  6. old beliefs that no longer work about how much you need to suffer.
  7. old beliefs about you needing to be deserving to have happiness, joy, love, abundance.
  8. any decisions you made that you should continue to be punished for past transgressions.
  9. religious beliefs that no longer work for you.
  10. a sense of obligation to anyone or anything that you do not feel in your heart.
  11. advertising that attempts to tell you what you should have or what you need to be happy or how you should act.
  12. brainwashing by news organizations that operate with a corporate agenda.
  13. media programming that by its content is aimed at influencing  how you spend your money.
  14. social conditioning that has you convinced that more is better.
  15. the hypnosis of the culture that attempts to convince you that you are powerless to change things.
  16. the hypnosis of the culture that already has you convinced that the purpose of your life is to accumulate stuff.
  17. the desire to spend money you don’t have on things you don’t need.
  18. the need to be right.
  19. any thoughts that you are small and insignificant, that life is a bitch then you die, that all you are is a body and a collection of thoughts, that your being here in this place, in this time, doesn’t matter.
  20. any attempt by anybody to shut you up.

Only you can free your mind.

Good night.

Thank You to All Who Bought My $1 Product

First of all, to all my email subscribers,  sorry that you recieved the “Can you do me a favor” email again. I’m still playing catch up from being in the Ultimate Internet Bootcamp all last week, and that kinda fell through the crack.

I’d like to give a heartfelt thanks to all who helped me out by purchasing my dollar product “How to Use Self Hypnosis to Overcome Anxiety”. About 60 people purchased the Guide for  a dollar, and after paypal took 33 cents, I ended up with about $35 in revenue, all of which I’ll donate to charity.

The purpose of the Bootcamp was to learn the ins and outs of internet marketing. Over three hundred people attended the Bootcamp. Three hundred and twenty people all in a big room, all wired to the internet. Some folks didn’t even know how to cut and paste.

The goal was to develop a website on a WordPress platform (I use WordPress for this blog), create a product, set up PayPal, and see if we could make our first dollar before the Bootcamp was over. Just the technology logistics were staggering. In spite of that, everyone made a dollar at the event.

We also learned how use social media, such as Twitter, Facebook and You Tube to drive traffic to our sites. In addition, the Bootcamp offered lots of valuable info on working with affiliates, creating joint ventures, and how to use articles written by yourself or others to create traffic.

Of course, selling one product for a dollar  is not a great way to make a lot of money. The purpose of this “offering” was to test the system and more importantly, to build a list when people opt- in at my new site.

My new website is PasadenaHypnosisCD.com, and I plan to offer hypnosis recordings to help people with different types of anxiety. The website will also feature a blog targeted to people challenged by anxiety in whatever form.

Keep in mind this site is a work in progress! I’ll be adding products regularly. If you want to purchase my “How to Use Self Hypnosis to Overcome Anxiety” guide, you can still do so at http://pasadenahypnosiscd.com/special-offer/.

I’ve mentioned that we had a contest to see who could sell the most one dollar product. My team ended up with about 135 points, each point being a sale. The winning team had over 1300 points. Seems that some people called friends and had them purchase 1000 units on a credit card. Why didn’t I think of that?

Finally, I’m no internet marketing master yet, but I did learn a few things. If you are a business person and would like some coaching in the areas that I’ve mentioned, email me at [email protected].

If you’d like to learn more about the Ultimate Internet Bootcamp, go to http://www.peakpotentials.com/new/courses_camps/uibc.html

Have a great week!

Feeling Stuck? SHAKE IT UP!

iStock_000002934909Small

This week’s post is based on a wonderful presentation given at my BNI (Business Networking International) meeting by photographer Skye Moorhead. Thanks to Skye for collaborating with me on this post.

Tony Robbins says that one of our human needs is certainty. Most of us want to know what to expect; we want to know what’s coming. But if you always know what’s going to happen, if everything in your life is predictable, then another human need kicks in: the need for uncertainty.

To feel alive, to feel like life is a grand adventure, is to live in the space between these two needs. Unfortunately, all too often we seek the security of the known and comfortable. We end up stuck in routine, doing the same thing day in and day out. Life becomes boring, our senses become dull, and we end up feeling stuck. Feeling stuck seems to be an epidemic these days. In fact, there’s even a recent book called  “Stuck: Why We Can’t (or Won’t) Move On”by Anneli Rufus.

If you feel shackled to inertia and the air in your space is stale, then you need a fresh new breeze in your head. You need to S-H-A-K-E  I-T  U-P.

S: Stay Present. Let go of any assumption of how the next moment is going to be. Realize it’s always new: this present moment. Turn off the auto pilot, take control of your own perception and be aware of what’s in front of you. Engage your senses, pay attention to subtleties. Try to keep your mind more on the journey than the destination. Practice this enough and you’ll begin to realize that you don’t have a life; you are life.

H: Have An Open Mind. Being receptive to alternative points of view or experiences creates a space for serendipity, which is defined as the propensity for making fortuitous discoveries while looking for something unrelated. Ask questions and listen to the answers. Where in your life can you let go of having the end in mind? There you will find possibility.

A: Alternative Points of View. How can you look differently at challenges or situations in your life? Can you try a worm’s eye view? What about a bird’s eye view? Are you able to focus on the windshield instead of the road? How does this change your perception? Do you really understand the point of view of your children? What would you look like on a video camera taped to your dog’s head?  How are you being perceived by others around you? Do you know? Try asking.

K: Keep it Simple. Don’t  over think. Life at it’s basis is simple. Sometimes good enough is good enough, perfection is the enemy of good. Perfection tires things out and chases away newness. Walk away and come back later. The more complicated you make anything the more energy is required and the more your mind is pulled away from what’s going on in front of you. Less is often enough and more often, it’s more. Get it?

E: Embrace the Unexpected. The unexpected will happen. See detours as doorways out of habit. Remember that everything is energy and energy is always changing. Be fluid in your thinking and you will find great potential there. Life can be absurd, learn to embrace it, sometimes there is no apparent reason for events.

I: Involve Others. Nobody does it by themselves. Be willing to admit you don’t know, but choose who you listen to carefully and allow for synergy. Actively seek out what others think. Remember, two heads are better than one, sometimes three better than two.

T: Take Note. Make a conscious effort to remember by observing  and recording.  Keep a journal where you only write really cool stuff. Write down what excites you. When you think it, ink it. You don’t need to remember why it stopped you: a turn of a phrase, a new song, a recommended book or film, a combination of flavors, a great website. Write it down and look it up.

U: Upend the Expected. Cultivate a “devil may care” attitude for when you need it. Take a risk and say what you really think. If you are always appropriate then be the opposite. Jump out of the box, hang around outside for while. Eat breakfast for dinner. Try things in a new way, have a picnic in your backyard. Dare to be different.

P: Press Past Your First Idea. Don’t get attached to an immediate solution. You may think it’s brilliant but what if you took it out a couple of steps beyond? Brainstorm many solutions quickly, use a flip chart or whiteboard, writed down keywords. Thinking out loud can be incredbly productive. Don’t be afraid to cut your losses, or to give up time invested if it’s not working, whether it’s a business card or a marriage. In the grand scheme of things, consider that nothing is ever wasted, nothing ever lost. You are always free to choose.

Did you get any good ideas? Pick two or three and practice for the next week and see what happens. Life is waiting for you.
