Another Chance for “Self Hypnosis for Success” Class at Pasadena City College

Pasadena City College will be offering my Self Hypnosis for Success class again for three Saturdays starting June 5, 2010, and continuing on June 12th and 19th from 9 to 10:30 a.m. I’m not sure if I will hold this class again at PCC. So if you’re interested, act now!  Go to this link Hypnosis For Success for class registration and information.

Here are some comments from the course evaluations I received from the last class held in January 2010:

  • Ted is very knowledgable and enthusiastic about his field. It really helped me a lot.”
  • “It actually works!”
  • “Professional, organized and informative. The instructor was engaging and knew his subject well. I’m glad I took the course!”
  • “Clear and easy guidelines to follow. Instructor is knowledgable and well experienced.”
  • “Ted is dynamic and makes an effort to engage the students. The content was well delivered.”

This is an excellent opportunity to learn how to do Self Hypnosis for goal achievement, business success, motivation, letting go of limiting beliefs and much more. We’ll discuss what hypnosis is, how it works, and how you can do self hypnosis in only a few minutes a day. You’ll receive a course syllabus as well as my Guide to Self Hypnosis and a Self Hypnosis conditioning CD, which also includes my studio produced “Peaceful Place” relaxation track.

Remember, you’re being hypnotized daily, through advertising, the media, and people you spend time with. In addition, you’ve been hypnotized throughout your life to believe things about yourself and the world that may or may not work for you anymore. The good news is, you can take control of your own positive programming. If you have habits of thinking and behaving that are holding you back from the success and happiness that you want, then you can learn to use the power of your own mind to change.

If you’re not interested in learning self-hypnosis but believe that hypnosis can be of help to you, give me a call and I’ll give you a free half hour consultation to discuss how you can benefit from working with me as your hypnotherapist or personal/small business coach. Call (626) 826-0612 or email [email protected].

Who Has Control of Your Mind?

It’s still surprising to me how many people out there are afraid of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. It happens all the time, when I tell someone I’m a hypnotherapist,  they put their hand in front of their face and exclaim “Don’t look at me!” Believe it or not, I’ve actually had people ask me “Are you hypnotizing me now?” Other times, people say “I would never allow someone to control my mind.”  I have to chuckle inside. What they are telling me is that they would be an excellent hypnosis subject because they believe I can control their mind. Of course, that is simply not true.

My job is not to control your mind but to help you get control of your own mind. I have to remind myself occasionally that there is still a lot of fear and misinformation out there about what hypnosis is and isn’t. As a hypnotherapist, it’s easy to assume that everyone is aware of the value of hypnotherapy. In fact, most people are not.

When I say controlling your mind I mean controlling your thoughts. That’s why people come to me: because  they are having trouble controlling their thoughts. Thoughts lead to behavior. Their thoughts and behaviors  are not getting them what they want. Make sense? I help people to have control over their minds so that they are thinking the thoughts and doing the things that help them get what they want  and feel the way they want to feel.

Do you use a washboard to wash your clothes? You might not even know what a washboard is. Yet there was a time when most folks used a washboard to wash their clothes.  Hardly anybody uses a washboard anymore because we now have a better tool: a washing machine.

Hypnosis is simply a tool, but a very effective and powerful tool. In my opinion, it’s the tool of the future when it comes to tapping your potential. It may be called auto-suggestion, reprogramming, or guided visualization, but the goal is the same: to de-hypnotize yourself from the control of limiting beliefs and bad habits that keep you from moving forward in your life.

If you are a long time reader of my blog, you nay have heard this before. But it bears repeating that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. Here are some other points to remember if you are thinking about using hypnotherapy to help you  achieve your goals.

  • Hypnosis is based on science.
  • Hypnosis is a natural state we all go into, pretty much on a daily basis. If you’ve ever missed your off ramp because you were “spacing out” then you know what it feels like to be in trance state.
  • It’s about the power of suggestion.  I simply guide you into a state you’ve been in many times before, this time under controlled conditions where I give you  suggestions based on what you’ve told me you want to change or achieve. You are very open to suggestions (suggestible) when you are in hypnosis.
  • Since it’s a natural state, everyone can be hypnotized. The fact is, there’s a lot of people out there already walking around in a trance.
  • Ever seen a stage hypnosis show? People ask me all the time if it’s real. It is real and yes, those people are really under hypnosis. How does the hypnotist get them to do wacky things? Well for starters, they volunteer! They know what to expect. The fact that they raise their hands to volunteer means they expect to get hypnotized. Still, some don’t really allow it to happen and they get sent back to their seats.
  • Here is something to ponder: you are already hypnotized to act and behave in certain ways, even if you don’t want to. It’s called social conditioning, or the hypnosis of the culture.

I’ve heard it said and I agree that the greatest skill you will ever learn is how to control your thinking. Hypnotherapy is an excellent tool for doing that. If you know someone who has tried over and over to change something in their life but have not succeeded, it might be time for them to get a better tool.

If you’re interested in finding out how hypnotherapy can help you, give me a call. I’ll give you a FREE phone consultation. As a bonus, just for calling, I’ll also send you my  “Peaceful Place” relaxation audio recording for free! ($25 value) This is my studio produced recording of 20 minutes of pure relaxation. (You can get it on an mp3 via email or I can send it to you on a CD for a small shipping and handling charge.)

Is Your Job or Business a Path with a Heart?

Thinking of changing your profession or business? Maybe you’re one of those who is forced to consider such a change because you no longer have a job. I know at least one person who was glad that she was laid off. “God, I hated that job” she said, “but I never had the guts to quit.” Although times are tough for her now, she feels that she can now explore possibilities that interest her. Maybe you lost a job that you love and are looking for another.

The job I have now, being a hypnotherapist and  small business coach,  is the longest job I’ve held, now going on 6 1/2 years and without a doubt, the most fulfilling job I’ve had.  My story is one where  I’ve had a lot of jobs. I used to feel bad about moving from job to job so often, and for not being able to decide about what I wanted to do. Now, I have  acceptance and immense gratitude for my varied life experiences.

In my search for meaningful work, I have sold books door to door. I’ve cleaned up horse poop in stables. I have herded cattle in Montana. I’ve worked the drive thru window at Wendy’s. I’ve stood in hundred degree heat in dress shirt and tie trying to sell someone a used car. I’ve sold water conditioners, memberships, suits, shirts, ties, shoes. I’ve sat at a desk for 8 hours a day pushing paper around. I’ve worked for a multi- million dollar software corporation doing tech support. But the minute it became clear to me that the only thing the job was going to give me was a paycheck and nothing more, I started thinking about the next job.  I tell you, it wasn’t easy, and there was always a price to be paid.

But what guided me the whole time was something I read when I was in my twenties: “The Lessons of Don Juan, A Yaqui Way of Knowledge” by the late Carlos Castaneda. Say what you want about Castaneda’s 15- book chronicle of his apprenticeship with Don Juan, the extraordinary and powerful Mexican shaman, I found these books to be mesmerizing, beautiful, transcendent and profound.  In this book was a passage  whose  truth shook me to the bone when I read it as a very young man, confused and doubtful about my future. At this risk of making this post too long, here it is:

“Anything is one of a million paths. Therefore you must always keep in mind that a path is only a path; if you feel you should not follow it, you must not stay with it under any conditions. To have such clarity you must lead a disciplined life. Only then will you know that any path is only a path, and there is no affront, to oneself or to others, in dropping it if that is what your heart tells you to do. But your decision to keep on the path or to leave it must be free of fear or ambition. I warn you. Look at every path closely and deliberately. Try it as many times as you think necessary. Then ask yourself, and yourself alone, one question.

I will tell you what it is: Does this path have a heart? All paths are the same, they lead nowhere. They are paths going through the bush, or into the bush. “Does this path have a heart?” One makes for a joyful journey and as long as you follow it you are one with it. The other will make you curse your life. One makes you strong; the other weakens you.

The trouble is nobody asks the question: and when a person finally realizes that they have taken a path without a heart, the path is ready to kill them. At that point very few people stop to deliberate and leave the path. A path without a heart is never enjoyable. You have to work hard even to take it. On the other hand, a path with heart is easy; it does not make you work at liking it. The path without a heart will turn against men and destroy them. It does not take much to die and to seek death is to seek nothing.

For my part there is only the traveling on paths that have heart, on any path that may have heart. There I travel, and the only worthwhile challenge is to traverse its full length.

And there I travel looking, looking, breathlessly.”

I’ve had a lot of jobs because I have always asked the question “Does this path have a heart?” My greatest fear was to die a spiritual death in a job that sucked the life out of me and gave back nothing in return but green pieces of wrinkled paper. As Jim Rohn says “It’s not what you get in life which is important, it’s what you become.

If you are thinking about changing a career, business or job because you don’t feel it is a path with a heart, or you are looking for one, then I support and encourage you. If you are not on a path with a heart, then you must get off of that path and try another.  Here are some things to think about.

  • You may have a family, bills, responsibilities that don’t give you the luxury of quitting and looking for something else. Got it. Do what you can to be true to yourself. Perhaps a different position, different responsibilities, different location.
  • Your path with a heart may not be your full-time job. It might be a part-time hobby or enterprise that your full-time job supports.
  • If you have the luxury of trying something else, talk to someone who is doing it. Research it. Read about it. Volunteer to get a feel for the daily life of it.
  • Maybe you just need to get a job, any job to keep yourself afloat. You might be saying  “My God man, my car is going to be repossessed and you’re talking about a path with a heart? I need a path with a big dollar sign!” Fine. Do what you need to do and choose powerfully. But keep looking for that path with a heart while you get back on your feet.
  • If what you are doing is not working for you then try something else.  Give it some time. You will know if it’s right for you if you ask the question. There is no shame in leaving, even if you have invested much time or money. This is your life!
  •  Maybe your path is supporting a family or an aging parent and your crappy job lets you do that. Only you can say whether or not it’s worth it. Be clear about it and then be strong and do what you need to.

Finding the right path can be difficult and discouraging.  If you need help, give me a call.

I believe that the work that we do gives us a powerful opportunity to express ourselves and to make our own unique contribution. I wish you luck in finding your path.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Halloween Special Offer!

The ghosts,  ghouls and goblins are out, but what’s really scary is that so many businesses do so little to thank and reward their customers, especially since customers are hard to come by these days!

Since we are on our way to Thanksgiving, I would like to show my appreciation to all my previous clients reading this by making the following offer: Starting this Tuesday, October 27th, I will offer hypnotherapy sessions to all previous and current clients at the reduced fee of $85 until November 27th. Same for new clients except the first session is $100, which is $25 off my regular first session fee. In addition, if you refer someone that comes in for a session, I will give you 50% my regular fee for  a hypnotherapy session.

Here’s the catch. If you come on for a session, you need to ask for the discount, because that tells me you read my newsletter. It’s a special thank you to all you wonderful people that have kept me in business for 6 years this month.

Here’s another treat for you: check out this little video of my and my family doing the Monster Mash!~
